Want a 383 with LOTS of spray

I want to go with a scat 9000 (Since a friend of mine suggested it saying it would be more enough for the job), H-Beams Rods, and haven't decided on the pistons.

Anyway, other then having the block bored over for the 383, what else would you guys suggest? Since I am little low of cash, the heads will be put on hold. I already have a brand new valvetrain installed, only about 4k on it. So once I raise the compression to 11:1 and forge the rotating assembly (as far as the engine goes), what else would you guys suggest to make this 383 complete and not blow up under a 175-200 shot?

Re: Want a 383 with LOTS of spray

Well, here is your first problem.
You said stroker with LOTS of spray and later said you were low on cash. Not a good combo for what you are planning.

You have to take into account the fuel system, the rear end, tranny, heads/intake, blah blah blah I am building right now a solid roller LT4 383 with a 350 shot on it. Just the motor so far has cost me about 9000.00 Then you figure in the rear for 2000, the tranny for about 2400, fuel system about 1000.00, and the list just keeps going on and on.

If I was you and you are on a budget, maybe a 355 is more for you. You can get a very nice 355 and then put the remainder of money you were going to use on the stroker and nitrous setup, and beef up your other driveline components. Otherwise you are inevitably going to break **** and be pissed since you are low on cash.

Food for thought.

Re: Want a 383 with LOTS of spray

I only plan to run high 10's... L0L

350 shot, omg... hahahaha

You think i'll blow the rear spraying at the beginning of 2nd or after the launch?

Well I figured i'd do the bottom end, tackle that. Already got the valvetrain. I'll port my heads when I get cash. Fuel system would be apart of the engine. I plan to spend 3-5k on it. For a cheaper (not cheap) efficient engine. Then I would do the rear/transmission afterwards. I am going to buy everything in pieces about a piece every month or 2. Just trying to figure everything out now

You don't think the tranny on a 6 speed would hold up going with that power?

the tranny i think reaches the limit near 500hp
and your heads are just gonna choke that bottom end up if they're stock (please tell me they're not stock lt1 castings)

Seriously it would be such a waste of money to build a 383 stroker and put stock LT1 castings on top of it. Build a 355 put the extra you save from the 383 money into those LT1 castings for porting and then spray that. You would make SO MUCH MORE power.

why are you building the motor anyways? How did you break it to start with?

Re: Want a 383 with LOTS of spray

I didn't break it and its not happening right now. I am just blueprinting the engine for when i'm ready. I am getting headers in like 3-4 weeks.

I will probably send my heads to LE or something or whatever...
Does he sell heads or just port them?

Anyway, just trying to get everything down for when the time comes. I am trying to get my engine to a high 10 status on a big shot of spray (175-200) and hopefully a high 11 low 12 N/A car.

Scat 9000 Crank, H-Beam Rods, SRP Probe Pistons... for the bottom end. I want LE heads/cam for whatever he would suggest for my intention. I dunno... everything is still in there and I am bugging the **** out of anther forum member who I annoy...

Re: Want a 383 with LOTS of spray

I would look at a 355 too, just search your options out man.

Don't worry about a bottom end before you have the heads and cam. That's where the power is.

You could really just do a stock crank, I beam Scat or Eagle Rods and a set of good pistons (Mahle being my choice) and go from there. Less money and more power if you put the rest of it in heads and valvetrain.
