walbro fuel pump problems

I bought a walbro 255 unit about 4 years ago and even from the very begining I had pressure problems. Upon start up it would take 2-3 cranks of the key to get the lines primed before it fired up. Onces its running it'll stay at 38psi and show no problems. Now.... could this be a bad check valve in the pump?

Its not too much to ask for full pressure when you crank it over is it? Ive talked to several others and they have the same problems.

The vaccum line nipple isn't wet when I remove the line, it also holds pressure steady at 38psi and jumps to 40+ when I remove the line...so Im assuming it works. Also on initial start up fuel pressure won't even reach 38psi till I at least crank it over 3 times.....so that means the pump isn't building pressure or keeping. I never had this issue with the stock pump.

Hey B_

You know it's not that awesome AFPR

Remember, I have had the same problem for sometime. I didn't get any feedback when I posted about it. I even tried to solicit a respnse from Racetronics to see if they had a suggestion but got zippo.

Once you do finally get the pressure up and before you actually start it (the key in the "on" position), will the pressure drop? or is it just getting the pressure to come up you have trouble with? If it does drop after coming up, you want to at least consider leaking from the injectors. I would agree to consider the AFPR but we know that's not the problem .

I believe mine is the check valve so I plan to replace it as soon as we're all done with Brian's car.

BTW, like yours, as soon as I start it, the pressure is fine, even under boost and WOT I have no issues.

Blown 96 WS6 - I haven't installed that kick *** APFR yet. I plan on doing so in the near future.

When I get the key to the on position the needle will jump to about 23psi and drop to ZERO. Then when I crank it over it it'll jump higher and higher and usually on the 3rd try it'll crank over once it hits about 38psi on the gauge.

I thought about the injectors also...but I have a new set of SVO 30lbers in there so... I highly doubt 2 sets of injectors would leak....Im thinking its a check valve also.

When I have enough money..... Im thinking about the whole Racetronix harness and pump...so I can reuse the stock bucket.

That's exactly what I'm doing. I even went out and bought an entire in tank setup out of a wrecked 96 so I can start all over again cause I butchered the can on the first one
