voltmeter low....

I was driving around the other day and i noticed that the voltmeter was lower than normal. Also, my gauges kind of jump up when im accelerating, and sometimes the car jerks forward when accelerating too. whats the deal, what needs to be fixed??

Re: voltmeter low....

Check your alternator first, make sure it's delivering 14.4V.

Re: voltmeter low....

Sounds like the battery needs to be replaced..... Just take it to your local auto parts store and have it "load" tested.... If it checks out ok, then check the alternator, the vehicle running at the battery with a multimeter.. Voltage should read between 13.8~14.2 give or take a point....

PS. Dont forget to check for loose wiring or corrosion first...

I would go right for the battery and alternator and check the connections for corrosion...
