Voltage drops by 50% around 4K at WOT?

Hi guys,

I've been on business trips lately, but I finally got home to enjoy the car again this past week. I took it out for a few evening drives, and I noticed a problem--when I go WOT, the voltage will dip to around 50% somewhere past 4K, and it will dip so bad that the engine misfires. The car has around 65K miles on it, still has the original factory alternator and tensioner.

My list of stuff to check is:
  1. Verify that there's 13+ volts coming out of the alternator at idle
  2. Check for corrosion at battery and grounding terminals
  3. Take alternator to AutoZone / Advance, have them test it
  4. Check belt tensioner to see if it's going bad

How does that sound?

Thanks

I would clean the conections and then go have it tested.

I had an alternator bracket bolt back out and car was losing alot of voltage due to belt slip/skip

I'd say alternator is the likely suspect imo

I checked my alternator this weekend and the back bolt on the top was gone. It didn't cause any problems but could if more than one was gone or the right one.
