vivgilante or yank

well i ordered up a vigilante converetre this friday (theyre gonna call it in on monday morning) but i just went to the yank website and they have a chart that compares the two and it seems the yank is WAY better according to their website. How much of it is them pushing their product and how much of it is true? Its only 200 bux more for the yank if it is truely a good step above the vigilante i may have to change my order.

Can i get feedback from anyone with a vigi or yank any regrets, are you happy, would you do the same thing agian knowing what you know now??

What are the main differences taht make the yenk or vigilante better??

I ordered a vigi 3600, but im wondering if i shoulda went with a 4000 or lil more even, im gonna run a le2 head with le2 or le3 cam probably and supporting mods, Its a daily driver but i can put up with alot in the name of performance. Suggestions????

Thumbs up Re: vivgilante or yank

I have the yank 3500 and like it alot. In fact my buddy has the same stall in his car and it runs 7.98 with long tubes and other bolt ons. I would put in a trans cooler definately, I put one on with a temp guage and it never hits 190.

Re: vivgilante or yank

ya i have a B&M 2400 gvwr cooler ready to go in when i start this project.

At this point the yank seems only about 200 dollars more, if its truely a step above the vigilante i want to change my order and get a yank before they call it in monday morning. How streetable is the yank 4400?????

I dont know about the 4400, but my 3500 is very streetable. Can hardly tell it has a stall unless you nail it or are going up a hill.

Re: vivgilante or yank

i noticed the vigi has a stock paper type clutch whereas yank and slp and others use other ceramic type clutches, how much better are they then the paper?

Re: vivgilante or yank

The Yank converters perform better at the track than the Vigilante's, but are less streetable. The Vigilante's have an off-idle "snap" that gets the car moving at part-throttle. The Yank's will also need more cooler capacity because of the extra part-throttle slippage. The Yank 4400 is VERY loose and I would not consider using this on the street unless it's 90% track / 10% street.

Geoff Skinner at Thunder has done alot of experimenting with both converters and will readily admit that the Yanks perform better but the Vigilantes are better on the street.

As for the Vigilante 3600 versus 4000 issue, I'd stick with the 3600 or lower. For a street car, the "6" pump (3200) works very well, while I consider the "7" pump (3600) to be too loose. The Vigilante converters are rated low, so a stock LT1 would stall about 200 rpm more than rated. I'm running a 2800 Vig and it stalls close to 4000 behind a supercharged 383.

Some examples I've had are my last car, which was a carb'd 383 in a 3rd Gen with AFR 210's, GM 847 cam, 11.5/1 compression, Victor Jr intake, 700R4, 3.73's, and the "6" pump 3200. It ran a best of 11.09 at 122.7 with a 1.55 60' time on Drag Radials.

My current car with the supercharged 383, TH350, 3.42's, and ET Streets has run a 1.52 60'.
