I installed a set of crane gold 1.6 rockers when they first came out in 1995. Crane technical personnel provided part numbers for the springs and retainers. When I installed the parts I found interference between the retainers and the inside of the rocker bodies. The current gold rockers may have been re-contoured since then but might be worth checking to make sure you have clearance. Crane told me to use a die grinder on the rocker body to gain clearance and blamed GM for variation in valve stem height above the retainers. I lost confidence in their technical advice and am skeptical of the quality since that experiance. I called them first and then bought the rockers ,springs, retainers and keepers they recommended and the crap interfered! Then they say grind it and it's GM's fault!!!
Just to let everyone know me and my friend took off the head covers and the whole left side rockers were loose. We just tightened them down(not too tight) and all the noise went away. We didn't do any lash stuff though, cause we weren't sure how. Anyways it sounds tons better.
