I recorded my engine with the 1.6 crane rockers, is this what alot of you people say by it will sound like a sewing machine or that the rockers are hitting the valve covers. It actually sounds louder through this video. What do you think? Thanks for any help.

ya i've got the 1.6s and it sounds like that. it freaked me out at first

 

Dang, that's way louder than mine. Are they SA or NSA. I'm assuming SA?

Mine are NSA Pro mags.

mine sounded like that on first start up but now you can barely hear them at all

what 1.6 rr's are the best to get?
what valve cover options are there out there that are tall enoguh?

 

Thats not right at all.
You should barely be able to tell the difference. What lash did you set them to?

 

These were already in the car when I bought it, so I didn't set the lash. I am not sure which crane ones they are I just lifted the valve cover and saw gold ones with crane and 1.6 engraved in it, there may have been more lettering but I didn't pay attention. I can look tomorrow. So ya'll think it is the lash and it is not hitting the valve cover. Yeah it sounds louder on the video for some reason, but it is not as loud as the video makes it seem but it is still quite noticable.

 

Are you using stock lifters? My buddy has pro mags and his were loud until he put in comp r lifters now it is very quite.

Way too loud. Especially for roller rockers.

I'd take the valve covers off and see if there's any wear on the covers or the rockers from contact. If it all checks, relash the rockers. I would never use the engine on method. I just think there's way too many other sound variables to be able to set lash properly. "Tight until they don't clack anymore" just doesn't seem so precise I love using the engine off method because it puts the lifter on the base circle almost without any question or guessing.

Did you use different pushrods/lifters?

 

i would have to agree, that doesnt sound right. i would bet that u have a couple of them loose. i set mine at a 1/4 to 1/2 lash.

 

I have 1.6 Comp ProMag's, NSA, and with the lash set properly, I can't barely tell the difference from stock valvetrain. I always wondered why people complain about them being loud? :confused

 

My comp pro mag NSA rockers sound like a sewing machine, thats what everyone i talked to said was right.

 

I used the stock valve covers...I just cut out one side of the braces that are inside the valve cover so they would clear the rockers
