Video LE2 z28 on road course

This weekend I took my car to Roebling Road in Savannah, Ga to do the time trials. It was my first run with the LE2 stuff. The cam is great for road racing and pulls hard from 3500-6800 +. I am hitting about 145-150 on the front straight. I was really happy with the engine, especially since it is not completely sorted out yet.

Re: Video LE2 z28 on road course

Those guys are friends of mine, we were out running together. The vette was going to fast and just ran out of track. I was having trouble around the long turns keeping up, as I had old tires. (Shoestring budget.) I was fighting for every bit of grip the whole time to get back on the gas as soon as possible. The mustang is also heads and cam and he was pretty surprised how I went motoring by him on the straight. I did miss the shift right after passing him, that makes it really tough to turn in, as you need to put power down to get the weight on the rear wheels in these cars.

On that long stretch what was your mph like? It seemed like you have a ton of gear... With my LE2 GM847 on 3.43's I seem like I wrap though the gears a little quicker....

Just curious...

Shift into 4th coming on to straight at redline, pretty much use all of 4th down the straight hitting about 6700 or so near the braking zone, doesn't make sense to shift into 5th, about 145 mph. 3.42 gears

How were your brakes holding up? On street tires I boiled my C5 Z06 brakes in 5 laps on the road coarse down here (homestead) and I had brake ducts and high temp fluid ( forgot what fluid offhand). It was 95 degrees out though so that may have contributed to it. And are you on the stock oil pan too? And what radiator do you have, I had a stocker and i was overheating at 1/2 pedal after a few laps. I haven't been back since I put in the becool though.

I have c5 brakes on the car. Flush the fluid before each event with valvoline synthetic from autozone, have never had a problem. I also have a c5z and have used this for the last 5 years at sebring, road atlanta, etc. the key is to bleed it a day or so before the event so you get the dry boiling point.

I am running the stock radiator...water temps ok, not optimal...had to go with a turn one ps pump, as the stock pump burned up twice, even after a ps cooler.
I should get a bigger radiator, and an oil cooler...oil has to be up around 300, ignorance is bliss without a gauge.

That was great

Now I'm looking forward more than ever to get my le2 heads back and finish my motor rebuild! Any pics of your car and setup?

Nice!! When you turn on to the front straight how fast are you traveling? How long is the front straight? Have you tried pulling in 5th at all? Does it lay down because it is an overdrive gear?

Going on to front straight is about 95-100 in 3rd. Car does lay down in 5th...Tried it a few times, it sucks! .67:1 ratio doesn't work too well. Much better to have enough revs to run it out in 4th.

Nice running... Looka like you have a pretty decent suspension setup on there.

I put the brakes on 1-2 days before the event and bled all the coolant out. I was driving at 100% too, but I thought they would hold up better.
