Vibration after replacing opti & plugs
Re: Vibration after replacing opti & plugs
Yea I was running my car around and it is at 1400-1500. I do not get any in neutral. MPH does not really matter. It is in low gear, every gear 1-6. I did notice that this does happen only in closed loop and it gets worse and worse as the motor gets heatsoaked.
Anyone else had these problems like me and Banshee?

Re: Vibration after replacing opti & plugs
Stephen, ,first I ment the passenger side ofthe engine, not the driverside of engine. Also check the new wires for shorting out against each other. For the wires (car on ramps or lift) look at where the wires pass behind the pulley on the lower left, passenger side, I have expierenced wires that were not placed in the plastic looms properly and came in contact with the pulley, shorting the wires. To check the passenger side engine mount, just place a long heavy screwdriver or pry bar between the upper and the lower part of the mount try to move the bar or screwdriver up and down while watching for a lot of movement in the mount. The passenger side is more apt to fail than the drivers side due to the close fitting of the upper and lower parts of that mount. Passenger side is also the harder side to change because of the placement of the bolts. MAKE SURE THE CAR IS SAFTELY ON RAMPS OR LIFT DON"T JUST RELY ONLY ON JACKS TO SUPPORT THE CAR! One other th.ng, check all the wires for tight fit and for proper order the opti has the cylinder # on the cover take your time and trace the wires to each plug making sure they are tight. Start your engine in a dark place a look for shorted wires. New dosen't mean good. Dont rush! Good luck, 93Zted
Re: Vibration after replacing opti & plugs
Vibration at low rpm's under moderate load (overdrive at 50-55) is a common sign of ignition problems in my experience. I also believe an incorrectly gapped plug can cause these symptoms.
Whoever did the work goofed something up. It's gonna be aggravating but you're gonna just have to dig in and check everything. Hopefully you'll find a short somewhere and won't have to dig into the opti.
If I were you I'd pull the easiest plug to get to and check the gap. If it looks right, pull another till you've checked them all or find a bad one, checking for cracked insulators, etc in the process.
Man, I hope your opti's ok!

Re: Vibration after replacing opti & plugs
Yea Im going to replace plugs, wires and then the opti as well just for peace of mind. My car has 160k on the clock. I bought it with 150k and I do not know what has been or has not been done to it. Is there a way to datalog the car to see what is definatley wrong? Once that crazy vibration(miss or whatever) happens wouldnt the PCM pull timing or spark advance?
Re: Vibration after replacing opti & plugs
Ok so I replaced my opti, plugs, wires, water pump in an effort to fix this car and it did it. No more vibes!!! I had a couple very dark, almost oily plugs that Im pretty sure fouled out. After the tune up the car idles sooo much better. Car feels brand new!
