What size header bolt
What size header bolt
1994 TA, stock (ported) heads, AS&M headers (3/8" thick flange).
ARP has a couple of options for bolts:
- 3/8" diameter x .750 (bolt UHL)
- 3/8" diameter x 1.000 (bolt UHL)
Advice?

Re: What size header bolt
Use the 1", you will have twice the bite inside the head. You are less likely to strip out holes. There is absolutely NO reason to use 3/4' bolts period.
I really like my stainless steel ARP 1" hex head bolts. Dont get 12 point cause you can not get an open end wrench on the head. I can assure you will need to use a ground down 5/16" open end wrench on you AS&M headers.

I put the headers on in 2000, but after the motor was built last year my copper gaskets went missing and some paper gaskets were installed, which have since burned.
I do remember having to shave the open end wrench, tho. Damn those headers.
Thanks for the advice!
Re: What size header bolt
Use 3/8 Head bolts from ARP or something and use the copper gaskets, they are great, use an open end wrench to tighten or better the ratchet wrenches are perfect for the ones that are easy to reach.
