Vendor Caution!
Vendor Caution!
Early last year I thought that I had hit paydirt when Summit Racing quoted Koni DA shocks for $600 (2 front shocks only). I had ordered them in December, but Summit did not ship them until March. Well when they finally arrived, I opened the box and was shocked to find a clearly USED AND ABUSED set of shocks (scratches, galled threads, no packing materials etc). For such pricey shocks, I could not believe that they shipped them from their warehouse in this condition.
Oh by the way, they also screwed me on a set of Taylor universal fit 10.4 mm wires for over the valve cover use with fire sleeving, wire looms etc (total cost of $230), when I discovered that the optispark boots only fit 8mm wires (after I assembled all of the fire sleeving and cut to exact length). Taylor does not make optispark boots for 10.4mm wires and they did not tell me. When they refused to help arrange finishing the assembly of these wires (Taylor makes a 10.4mm under the valve cover set for LT1s), I asked for a refund which they also refused.
Finally after ordering $3000 of parts from them in 3 months(various Autometer gauges, wires, fuel injectors, fuel pressure reg, etc), they kept 15% of my money when I returned $800 worth or parts which I chose not to use. Specifically, I had bought gauges, fuel pressure reg, fuel injectors of varying sizes/style with the intent of returning the parts that would not fit, look right or were of lower quality. I waited until 92 days to send all of the parts back at once (project finally completed) and they kept a bunch of my money. No consideration of the $12,000 of parts I had bought from them in 8 years.
STAY AWAY FROM SUMMIT RACING ... THEY ARE NOT HONEST ANYMORE!! Buy from Jegs, they have always been fantastic with me.

The shocks are another matter. Damaged merchandise is unacceptable and they should pay return shipping and send you new shocks. But don't wait 3 months to return them.
I usually am pretty damn sure what I'm buying will fit my application, is the right size, brand I want, etc. when I spend a small pile of money on parts like you did.
Maybe you should ask around and make sure what you're ordering is right for your application next time, and save possible future headaches and return fee's. Yes it does happen from time to time, I/we realize and have all experienced that at one point or another.

Summit has always been good to me and friends of mine. If they have sent wrong part they have shipped me the correct part overnight. Never been charged restocking fee for something they screwed up. Very happy with Summit. Talked to some jerks at Jegs support before but I will use who ever has the best price. Jegs and Summit will price match also on advertised items. But the problem is that they call the vendor and tell them who they are and ask what the price of that item is so of course the price goes up. think it was Jegs that did that to me.
Sorry but when an item doesn't say specifically if it fits LT1, that's when you research it to death.
As far as your shocks are concerned, first you never should have waited that long. You should have had them drop shipped direct from the MFR. Two, don't forget there are uscrupulous customers too! Obviously someone returned the shocks and they (MFR or Summit) may have missed inspecting them when they were returned.
I have dealt with both companies and still prefer Summit. If they screwed up (not yet) they take it back no question. If I screw up (twice) a restocking fee is a fact of life.
The minute you opened the shocks you should have called them and taken pictures of the products. (of course this is advice after the fact so it's easy)
I suggest you evaluate how you pick parts and before you blast someone, shut up and think.

BTW, anyone who waits over 30(not 92!) days to return a part is asking for trouble. FWIW, Summit does suck IMO. I think my girlfriend knows more about cars than their sales reps!
I've gotten some stuff from jegs that was damaged a COUPLE of times and they take their good time about sending a return slip.. They usually do it after you call them 3 or 4 times but IMO I think they should do it the first time.
The latest one is that they send a tire out to me that had marks in the sidewall that were all the way down into the cord. I'd like to ask them if they'd use that tire on their 200mph prostock, or even one of their super gas cars.. I'm def not using it on mine!!!!

I don't believe it goes in the lounge, (sorry) but thats mainly b/c most of us buy from these places and the word needs to go out that customer sevice is starting to suck EVERYWHERE, leaving some of us screwed and having to deal with something we shouldn't have to deal with. I know you waited a long time to return your stuff, and the restocking fee is something you just have to pay, but I've dealt with other companies (not car related) where customer severice was FAR from even being fair. I think something needs to be done about companies that take your money then do not wanna give it back b/c of a problem, or at least work with you!
