Don't get to scared my car has the same tick. Maybe it's just the roller rockers? Not exactly sure but the LT1 just seem a bit noisy in the top end from what I hear.......just my .02 cents.http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/667200
Re: vavletrain is getting louder?
5W?!?! If that car has anything over 50,000 miles it is always a good idea to switch to a 10W-40. My Old S-10 did that and i used 20W50 kendal and it never did it again. I think you are using too thin of oil.
Re: vavletrain is getting louder?
Apparently you have Non SA RRS (which should be a little quieter than the SA RRs, but nevertheless, RRs are more noisey than stockers.
I have the same cam and SA RRs. Last week, after only 800 miles on a new block, I had 2 of the RRs come off the valve stems: one of them knocked the keepers out which caused the valve to drop into the hole.
Not all sure what happend. My springs are probably marginal for the 552 lift on the exhaust, but my guess is that most of the problem is the mechanic not adjusting and tightening the RRs correctly. I just don't know.
I'm scared about sticking with the SA RRs, but I paid big money for those suckers and hope that they can be made to do the job with the right adjustments and larger springs.
So...ticking is normal, but if you believe that the noise is getting much louder, it wouldn't hurt to check the valve train, lest you wind up blowing a bunch of money because you sucked a valve. JMHO
BTW, does anyone think I should have a problem with my SA RRs if they are adjusted and locked down correctly? I would love to have a little piece of mind once in awhile.
