Vats/ Resistor Question
I was wondering what kind of resistors were needed to do the vats bypass. i am having the same problem that i have seen described on here by other people, but i can't find out what kind of resistors i need. The car is not starting, i can hear a clicking from the abs relay, the starter is not getting any power, and the battery is brand new and reading plenty of power. When i used a multimeter to test the key pellet i got a .51 reading. How do i translate that into a reading on shoebox's chart? My brother talked to one of his friends and he said that it translated to 10,000 ohms, but i am not sure if this is right. Also, what type of resistor is needed? My brother went to pick some up from Radio Shack and he said they had 2 types of them, and he got 1 pack of each. Can anyone help me out?
Thanks
Chris

Re: Vats/ Resistor Question
Depends what scale you set your meter on. First, was it set to "ohms"? Second, were the leads plugged into the correct terminals on the meter? Finally, what scale was it set to? I'd guess that you had it set to "Kohms" or "ohms X 1000", which would mean your 0.51 = 510 ohms = pellet #2
Re: Vats/ Resistor Question
If you're sure you read the meter correctly, you need a resistor between 502 - 564 ohms for the system to work right. Don't worry about the "watt" rating on the resistor, there's no significant electrical load on the circuit.
