VATS: Flashing Security Light/ Wont Start
VATS: Flashing Security Light/ Wont Start
My security light is flashing as soon as I cut the key on, the fuel pump primes but the car wont turn over. I drove it to work this morning with no problems, cranked right up the first try. The we I tried to leave work this afternoon, it wouldnt crank, and the security light is flashing making me think its the VATS system acting up. I have tried 3 different keys all do the same thing. I have tried disconnecting the battery to reset the computer, that didnt work. And I have tried turning it on for 5 seconds then off for 3 seconds and repeat for 3 times(I read that somewhere to reset the vats), and that didnt work either.
Any help is appreciated, my car is currently stuck at work, and I will need it back tonight.
Thanks
Kevin C
EDIT: I just read in another post that you can jump the VATS. Does anyone know how to do this, so I can try it??

I have looked through both, but cant seem to find this problem. I have had the problem in the past with the light coming on, and I just wait 3 mins and it will start but this time, the light is flashing, and does so every time I turn the key to the on position.
well sorry to say this but flashing security light is a pita dude i had the same problem mine turned out to be my key cylinder. mine did the same thing flashed changed my cylinder and bam she fired up.. ok but jumping the vats is used by resistors and there a pita to match up by key.
I found this write up on shoebox's website VATS Bypass
I guess I will go try this
Did you try the bypass first?

I used these two

try testing your key like this
then go to radio shack and buy a resister that correlates to the reading you had. Mine read 1.47 on the meter so I bought a 1.5 resistor and it worked just fine. If you need more info look here
