Security light

Security light
A couple of times, in the last month, the security light came on and the car wouldn't start. After waiting 3 to 4 minutes, the car started as the manual states. I cleaned the key off after the first time, so I suppose it's not a dirty key. Is it suggested I get a new key, or is something else going on? Car is a '96 Formula.
