Re: Valve Springs?

I am now thinking about comp cam 918s. Heard so many good things about them. What you guys think?

PS: I made a new post about them too.

Re: Valve Springs?

You really can figure this out for yourself, did you read the primer But if you want me to figure it out for you, please provide the following info.

1. are you looking for a stock diameter spring?
2. what is the lobe lift on the cam?
3. what rocker ratio do you plan to use?

Re: Valve Springs?

Looking at putting in some 1.6 comp cam pro mag roller rockers. I am going to be sticking with the stock heads for a while. Hopefully in a couple of months I will be putting a cam in the car. I want something streetable still and have been looking to get somewhere in the .540 lift range. What do you reccommend?

Re: Valve Springs?

Those (919) springs will not work, they will trash a hydraulic lifter. Too strong.

Re: Valve Springs?

I was curious about the 918s not the 919s. This local guy who builds some awesome motors for our cars says he loves to throw those in every car he can. He said that I would be very impressed with them in my car.

Re: Valve Springs?

I am running a Crower 00563 cam. 225/232 with ~.570" and ~.586" valve lift with 1.6:1 rockers. I am using the 986 springs. Someone said the 987 and 986 springs have the same outer spring but the 987 has a stiffer inner spring. Not sure if this is true. I've gone to 6500 rpm without any apparent float. Of course I am no expert. The power seems to be the same at 6100 as 6500. Stock uported heads can only do so much so this seems "normal",...I guess.

The springs fit. The cup did not. I had to grind little flat spots on the cup to clear the center bolt boses and the head bolt in the middle of the center exhaust valves. Also had to knock of a tiny bit of flash on the head that was sticking up. This may seem a little iffy, but it was either that or walk. The stock cam had a bad lobe from the factory which ruined a lifter, which later ate a lobe on the hotcam I installed. Now I have new lifters (stock, actually Federal Mogul from Discount for 8 bucks a piece) with new everything else, so it should be ok.
