valve spring compressor
I'm looking for a good valve spring compressor that will allow me to remove the valve springs w/o pulling the motor and heads. Does anybody know of a specific model valve spring compressor that will work? It must work while the engine is in the car w/ the heads on it.
Thanks!
Thanks!

If you have double springs then yo must use the first type, and it could be difficult to compress and remove the locks especislly on the rear cylinders.
If you have single spring it's better to use 5th or 6th type.

Re: valve spring compressor
I looked at the options available. I'm not sure how does the first one work? I've never seen a compressor like that before. I do have double springs. Why won't the 5 and 6 style work on those?
Well thanks much for the help!!!

Re: valve spring compressor
Moroso makes a great one that I used to do mine with. its MOR-62370 in Summits catalog. You slip the handle off and screw it down on the studs then slip the handle back on and voila! It even will get the ones under the cowl.
Re: valve spring compressor
I actually ended up buying the crow bar lever style compessor. It works AWESOME however, definatly will not fit under the cowel. I looked at your morso verson on summitracing. However, two items came up. it was also quite expensive. is there an alternative tool? I was thinking about getting a strong peice of metel drilling a hole in the middle and u at the other end. then taking that peice of metel and tightening it down to the stud, while bracing it on the intake. Does anybody make something of this sort? it would be very simple and would fit on every single one no problem... well thanks for the help!

Thats about the best working compressor youll find but its $$. If you are trying to install single coil springs(not the beehives) then just go rent one of the screw down type compressors from autozone. Those bars work really well too but like you found out their only flaw is they wont fit under the cowl at all.

After tearing the top of my engine appart. Cursing, loosing parts, breaking and scratching up everything in the engine compartment I have concluded this crow bar compressor dealie, doesn't fit and is almost worthless.
I am going to buy the screw down one you showed above. Just wanted to make sure it will fit double springs. The picture doesn't seem to have enought detail to tell if it will fit. DO you know if it will work with double springs????
thanks
