Question Valve Seals?

Hey guys,

Seems like a silly question, but figured I'd ask just to be sure...

I went to Murrays, a local auto store, and asked for LT1 valve seals. He gave me flat o-rings. When I started taking the heads apart, I realized the stock heads have the umbrella guides.

So what do I do with these flat o-rings? Do I put the o-rings on first and then press the umbrella guide over it?

Here's some pictures from Summit as reference...

What I purchased looks like this:

What are in the stock heads, obviously, are more like this:

Take them back, they are not used on LT1 heads.

I use the "Viton" style seals.

Neither one of those seals is correct for this application, and even on the old stuff I set them up to use modern metal clad viton seals.

Looks like this:

Thanks for the guidance! What would be a good viton style seal? I have stock valves, not sure what the diameter is. Would prefer no machining, also...

A search of Summit shows:

Which one would be the best recommendation?

I remember someone mentioning Edelbrock seals in another thread, would these be sufficient?

Take your O-rings back to Murray's and get the Felpro Vitons.

The Felpro ones from Autozone, etc. are the ones you want. They work great for a oem replacement.

The problem is that many of the old timers working at a parts house will think you mean the original LT1 and give you the umbrella/o-ring combination. If they pull it up by application, felpro has the seals that work - they are nitron not viton.

Awesome, thanks for the help guys! I can't wait to get this all done - going from a stock 3.4L v6 to an LT1 with a cc503 should be fun!
