Valve lash and oil

As I was trying to set mt valve lash (for the 108th time) and after mutiple start attempts I noticed I started getting oil to come out. Now does this mean the i'm getting close to starting it up or what. I assume that the lifters did'nt have any oil in them since it's been sitting for a while and I drained the oil when I did the heads. If I had dry lifters would that make it hard to start?

I've seen this site. I found my tdc ( both #1 pushrods were down) and I set it according to to the haynes book and shoebox which were Identical. My valve lash was tight all valves were good after turning over a few times. The bitch just didnt start. It has been sitting over close to a year. So I'm thinking it was too dry intially to start it.

Like the site says, the engine has to be warm, lifters must be pumped up, otherwise, if you set the lash on lifters that are bled down already, once they pump up, they're going to be too tight.

Yea I agree. So how do you warm up a car that cant get started? Is there a way to get the oil pumped up manually with out the car running?

I dont think you have to warm it up, just turn it over to pump the lifters up.
