Anyone used a older style crank in our blocks?

I have the oppurtunity to get a forged GM crank for free. Pretty sure its just a 350 one, but I'll be checking the numbers this weekend. Although its the older 2 peice one. I know they make the plate adapter for the rear seal, but has anyone actually done it?

A friend did this a few years ago w/ a two piece seal. He had all types of problems w/ the adaptor leaking. He did not know that there was a tool used to set it up.

They certainly can be used BUT do not assume forged means better. Remeber the "pink" rods are forged and by almost all accounts the newer powdered metal are better.
Basically what I am saying is if it is a 70s era forging it may be no better than a 90s stock piece.

How wouldnt the forged be better than cast? Just thinking that free is going to be hard to beat especially when its forged. I'll get the part number in a few.

Materials/metalurgy and machining have come a long ways in recent decades.
