valve covers

What are our options for valve covers and how do you make non center bolt valve covers work on our heads?

Re: valve covers

There are centerbolt valve covers notched specifically for the alternator clearance our cars need, there are gp centerbolt valve covers not notched, but which may work if you grind the alternator a little bit, and there are adapters for putting the leaky but plentiful perimeter bolt pattern valve covers which might not clear the alternator on centerbolt heads. Or, dare I mention, that with a little bit of enginuity and elbow grease, you could fashion a sloppy, but cheap pair of valve covers from playdoh and hope they don't melt or leak and hopefully your baby brother won't try to eat them.

Re: valve covers

These are the trickflow adaptors:

GMPP also make them. Your AFR heads might already be machined to accept the older covers.
The main problem will be the alternator which may need to be relocated.

Re: valve covers

Anyone know if those Ebay covers will clear Pro mag 1.6 rollers without clearancing anything? And Z95, did they come with an oil fill cap? The picture just shows a threaded hole...Thanks...

Re: valve covers

i run teh speed specialty alt relocation bracket. Can beat the price. You can run any valve cover you want and looks great. I had to make some extra mods to make mine work but it came out fine. i can get pics if you want. I'm running the edelbrock elite series valve covers. those were a pita to make work, but looks great.

I believe they won't clear pro mags with out clearancing. I had read on here prior to installing them that the baffles must be ground down or removed just like the stock covers. I just took my plasma cutter and completely removed the baffle on the top side where the issue would be. I've only gotten the drivers side installed today as i also got some made for you looms and new taylor wires i'm installing. They look damn good if i must say so myself, i cant wait to get the pass. side done and finally add my fuel rail covers. The covers don't come with an oil fill cap although thats the way it seems in the add. The stock cap will thread right into the hole though.

Re: valve covers

I used some real tall polished aluminum centerbolt VC's I got from Jegs. Then I just notched the passenger VC and had it welded. I had clearance problems with my pro magnums which is why I didn't use the stock valvecovers.

Re: valve covers

I've never seen a set of center bolt-to-perimeter adapters that didn't leak.

That's not good to hear. Makes me re-think doing it now. There are no precautions that can be used to prevent it from leaking?
