Re: valve covers

These are the valve cover adapters that I went with:

http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...1355&langId=-1

I went with these because they have a groove machined into the middle of one side and come with a set of rubber O-rings that fit into the slot. The rubber "mushes" and allows them to seal much more tightly against the perimeter of the head. Alot of the other ones I saw were designed to use a gasket in between the head and the adapter and another one between the adapter and the valve cover, which may allow for a decent clamping on the top gasket but gets into thread tolerance issues when trying to torque the nuts down tight enough to get adequate clamping on the lower gasket.

Re: valve covers

So far how have they been? Any leaking, any complaints?

So far so good. My engine's in R&R right now but when things are back together I'll show you some pics.

Question Re: valve covers

Hey, Z95m6: I just bought the same covers. Did you install them yet? If so, how did they fit? No leaks?
Please let me know.

Thanks,
Fred

They're both on and fit like a glove with the top baffles removed to clear my promags. They don't have any leaks as of right now with probably 50+ miles. Here are a few notable problems you might run into. 1. The groves that hold the valve cover gaskets in place aren't quiet as deep as the old covers so the gaskets don't really want to stay in place during the install. I just siliconed the gasket into the cover and let it sit for an hour so the gasket wouldn't fall out during install. 2. The hole in the valve cover for the rubber gromlet on the valve cover breather to TB hose was a little big. I had to remove the gromlet and wrap the edge in electrical tape until it was so tight i could barely get it in the hole. 3. Depending upon the wire looms you have you may need longer bolts. When i installed these covers I was also adding Made For You looms and the new covers are slightly taller than the stockers so the bolts included in the kit were to short to catch any thread in the head. This is kind of a pain because i went to every store in my town over the weekend and couldn't come up with any long allen head bolts in that size. I'd say if you're going to get new bolts you probably need at least 1/4" longer bolts preferably 1/2" bolts. 4. You'll need to modify the internal baffles that are included with the covers. They have very tiny openings in the baffle to let the oil flow through. I put a screw driver in mine and bent the holes open a little more ,and it still took me quite a while to add oil to my motor. This is because the oil tried to come up the filler neck of the cover. It would take days to put 5 qts. of oil in your motor with out opening up these little baffles. I wouldn't open them up to much or you might get leaks in the cover though. I'll go take some pics and post them.

Re: valve covers

Here are some pics of the covers. Yes i know the engine bay is dirty i was just sick of working on it this weekend. I'm pretty happy with the way they turned out. I even accidentally cut a hole in the pass side valve cover while plasma cutting out the baffles. I had a buddy that builds part for the aircraft industry out of aluminum welded it and i polished it up.
