GET THE V8!!!!! don't waste your money on a V6 Camaro, all show no go. unless you are going for show then go ahead and get it. But you will regret you got on if you are going for performance. I got 95 Z28 and i am still 16 with a permit. I paid 8,000 for it with only 45,000 miles on it, and it was all stock. My opinion is get the V8, they kick *** and run over all the gay imports!!!!

If you want power go V8. If you want good gas mileage and cheap insureance go with a Honda. People say get a beater first well my beater (Honda Civic) got me 3 tickets and a suspended licence. All in less than 1 1/2 years. After not being able to drive for 6 months (or being overly cautious not to get pulled over) I started to be more responsible with my drving. Any car that will run over 70 can get you a ticket anywhere. So go with the car you want.

Nothing wrong with v-6's if you dont like a lot of power or the v8 sound. Had my 96 RS for 3 years and loved it. But when i ran into a Z28, it was like, "oh sh*t, i wish i had that". So get the v-8 if you can afford, yes, the v-6's are very fast for what they are, i outran alot of cars with mine, but for raw power, they dont even compare to the v-8s.

Look at the replies in the thread. How many guys with V-8's do you see saying
"Sure, I would love to have a v-6, but my v-8 is ok"?
None. Now how many V-6 guys have said they would love a V-8, but the V-6 is ok? Almost all of them. Get the 8

And to the "Why is everyone hating on the 6's?" No one was hating, but the fact is the LT1 is the better engine, just like the LS1 is the better between it and the LS1, no hating, just how it is.

I noticed that Rob when I drove one. So has every I know that has and drove a V8. the V8 feels a lot heavier and really different. I like the way the V8 feels and sounds.

I'm not saying I didnt like driving the car, it just wouldnt work for a daily driver thats all.
Lt1 wouldnt work as a daily driver? I drove my LT1 every day, 55 miles round trip. I sat through all sorts of Houston traffic in it. I have plenty of freinds who daily drive their LT1s.

yes, but it is the end of their *****.

It's kind of funny how, when you step up from a V6 to a V8, *most* the time (save for V6maro...but...), you still have some kind of respect for them. My brother went from a 3.4L 95 firebird to a '98 Z28. He loves the Z, but still has plenty of respect for my 3.8L camaro. He actually likes the idea of me modding the V6. But again, it's where you came from. People who work 'up the ladder' in society (i'm not viewing Fbodie enthusiasm as a society where the V6 guys are at the bottom) tend to have more respect for people with less than them. But your people who were born into money have no respect for people who don't have money (in general).

i like my V6 powered camaro. Would I like a V8? yes. As a daily driver If a 3.8L L67 Turbo charged in a GTP can run 10.xx @ 13x, i don't see why a lighter, RWD, better geared car of similar engine could go low tens/high 9's at 13x/140

Honestly though, I love my brother's Z. What's bad (to you big bad V8 boys) is he was willing, WILLING to trade me, all I do is take over payments. And he's as big of an F-body fan (not BIG BAD V8 fan, not LT1/LS1 fan) as anyone could meet.

maybe that's the problem with people today. It's not the car around the engine, it's the engine around the car.
Shouldn't it be the other way around? The guy that's got the...oh nevermind the pee pee jokes

I cant believe you people are comparing a v6 to the LT1. Sure a v6 is fine if you just want a car that looks good, but if you want a car that looks good and is easy to get in the 13's and even 12's get the LT1 for gods sakes!! Im sorry but the v6 is absolute.

I see the points you guys are giving I KNOW I want a V8 but the prices here in canada are almost ridiculous, and Ive been told that insurance for a beginner on a trans am would be 300/month thats pretty much all the money I make in a month at my side job! and another thing to add to it, everyones saying how if THEY had a V8 as a first car they'd probably be dead and I believe it because My best friend Anis (bachehbad on this site) owned a 93 trans am after driving a sunfire GT and sure enough hes not with us now because He was killed in an accident while racing, but I think Im mature enough to handle not being a lead foot, but I guess ill have to wait n see, The car im looking at right now is a 1993 M6 Trans am with 189K!? their asking $7G for it is it a good deal???

My advice would be to go get quotes on insurance for ALL available options FIRST. I wouldn't waste my time and money on a V6, either, but if you can't afford the insurance on a V8 at your age there's no point in buying it. Plus, I know you said you wouldn't be a "lead foot" but you say that now. What's going to happen under pressure when that ricer dude is throwing revs at you at a red light? Are you gonna back down? Do you really think you're that good of a driver to lay off or even if you do challenge, who's to say someone won't just step in front of your car, either? There'a a lot of factors involved here and looking at it from every point IS very important. We all have heard of young kids dying in F-Bodies after a wreck and we just don't want anyone else to be a part of the percentage. That's the reason why insurance is so high on our cars because of the risk involved driving them.

V6s are great first car. If I had a V8, I would probably be dead right now. I spun out and almost died in my V6 and it only has 200hp/tq. I think V8 are too much for 16 year old. 100 more HP and Torque could make alot of difference in rain and snow.

I learned almost everything I know about cars from my V6 Camaro. Althought I wish I had a V8, I still love my V6 Camaro. I will probably mod and drive this car till I graduate college and hopefully I can keep this car to pass on to my kid.
