INSURANCE???? I owned a 95 V6 camaro and my insurance was i think 147 a month. That got wrecked and when I bought a 96 Z my insurance soared to 150 a month. That whopping $3 prevents me from buying 3 extra cans of soda from school. Its horrible!!! (I was 17 during the automobile 'swap')

yeah, you might be surprised that from a V6 to a V8 the price difference isn't that much. I know this is comparing apples and oranges, but when I was checking into getting a Z06 at one point, my insurance would only be $10 higher a month from a Z28 to a Z06.

i got my 95 trans am when i was 15 (actually jst turned 16 yesturday). i wouldnt even think about getting a v6....like someone else said those things area al hair with no *****. as long as you are mature enough to own a v8 id say you should rlly get it cuz you will always wish you had one if you have a v6. also....about insurance, just have your parents say its their car, thats what i did, and mine wont be too bad.

There's nothing wrong with getting a V6.
They've got plenty of *****. Heck, they're faster then a number of the V8's in the 3rd gens.

Yeah, maybe they're not as fast in a straight line as an LT1, but an LT1 isn't nearly as fast in a straight line as an LS1. Doesn't mean that the LT1 sucks or is watered down.

Some of you people really need to open your minds up . An f-body is an f-body regardless of the engine.

When did everyone become F-body haters???? Does it really matter if it has a V6 or stroked 427 LS1 w/nitrious???

A car is bought for various reasons. Bob got his for this reason, I got mine for my reasons. Am I wrong?? No. Sure I would not mind a V8, but would I give up my car... not on a bet!

CZ28.com and (the litttle brother site) Firebirdv6.com/Camarov6.com are here for one purpose, bring owners together! I know lots of Z28 owners that are fast and they have never looked down or talked down to me about my car. They have a respect for what I'VE choosen to do. Why can't others?

An F-body is an F-body, be glad your lesser counterparts bought the V6 model and not a Honda.

i started out on a v6 camaro... learned how to drive a high torque rwd car in it for a year... then i got the v8

if i had the v8 as my first car i'd be dead right now

however, i have done some very stupid things in the v8 in the past, and if it wasn't for my experience in the v6 it would have gotten nasty.

buy a cheap v6, drive it for a year, then get the v8

from 16-18 i had a Escort 5 speed a Pontiac Sunbird 3.1 a Z26 Beretta 3.1 and the day i graduated HS i picked up my 93 Z28, i had only gotten 1 ticket prior to getting the Z28 and only had been pulled over once.... Well ive been pulled over probly 20 some odd times (only gotten 1 ticket in the Z) But ur a target for cops. Im glad i didnt have my Z28 for my first car, I didnt have the respect i do now. If i was to do it all over again... id do it the same.. drive some V6 cars for about 2 years and then get my camaro as a freshman in college... Im turning 20 on sunday so ill have had the car almost 2 years, a Z28 or something of the like is a whole different animal then even a V6 fbody. My freind has an 93 a4 V6 car and theres nothing wrong with it, its a nice car! And if i didnt have a Z id be more then happy with a v6 car. I say find a somewhat cheap V6 car for about a year, (save the money for mods once u get a v8 car) and by the time u had that v6 car for a year u can probly afford a nice 98+ WS6 or something like that... and we all know... LS1 WS6's are hot as hell

my daughter first car was a 94 v6. We purchased it before she was 16 so I got to drive it awhile. The car handled very well and the performance was not bad, until I drove a V8.

Just be careful with either car. At 16 any tickets or accidents will cause your insurance to go up, our did, when she got a ticket.

good luck finding the right car

Why get a 3.4 when you can get a 3.8? Why get a 3.8 when you can get a z28? Why get a z28 when you can get an SS? Why get an SS when you can get a C5? Why get a C5 when you can get a Z06? See the point? Its all relative. Get the car you like. I got my V6 a few years back and ive always loved the car.

also...

look for Mustangeater82 on this board, he's gotten his $0 modified 2000 3.8L v6 running 14.4's in the 1/4

he's spent no money at all on his car and he's running about .3 behind most stock LT1's ...

Whatever car you get, make sure it has good brakes. I had a '91 Firebird several years ago, and liked the car, but the brakes were terrible.

You might be surprised how inexpensive you could find a 1998+ V6. They have great brakes, decent power, and with a 5-speed, it should be fun for high school while you are learning to drive and maintain a car.

Brakes/handling are the most important aspects until you get over being "invincible" and get a firm grasp on concepts such as force/momentum. That will to keep you out of trouble, i.e. wrecks.

It nice to have so many Dad's out here, huh? Most of us speak from experience unfortunately.

Good luck!

Not really,

I drove an LT1 BEFORE my V6 and I rode in a LS1 TA also.

I was considering geting a 01 Z28 just a few months back.

But why?

My car is payed for

Super reliable

Gets 24-30 MPG ALL THE TIME

has great power all around.

The V8 LT1 just felt too clunky, not as robust or responsive

Just be responsible. I drove a 91' 6 cylinder Explorer for my first car when I was 15, and got my Z28 as an early graduation present. You just can't be a jackass and drive like a maniac when you get a car like that. I think if you just take care of the car and take care of yourself in the car then you'll be fine.
