Using a valve spring micrometer?

Anyone know about using these at the bottom of the page here
http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...vid=4&pcid=109

I had read a post, can't find it now about someone using a micrometer like this I beleive and got the measurements 0.15 off because they did not allow for something?? So when the micrometer read 1.85 it was really at 1.70 and then caused spring bind.

Does this ring any bells or is it straight forward with these?

So you will have proper seat pressure and to avoid coil bind, the micrometer measures installed height of the valve spring. If the height is greater than it should be, then a shim(s) is placed under the spring to get you close. I say close because shims are only available in a couple of thicknesses. Unless you don't have the retainer installed properly when checking the installed height, or you are reading and/or using the micrometer incorrectly, it is a pretty straight forward. Obviously you will have needed to do the math properly to ensure you are installing the springs at the proper height in the first place.
