Using Total Seal - Quick Seat powder on new engine

Has anyone ever used this stuff? I figurd I'd give it a try since it's supposed to speed up ring seating. I knew it was gonna come in a small container, but I swear it looks like it's less than half full

Is one little 2 gram container enough to do all 8 cylinders?

I used it on my engine last time. There are past threads on it. Anyway, it seems to have worked since I don't have any blowby, and didn't even have any when the engine was green. It's important to really clean the cylinders well and then rub it in till they seem to have a greenish tinge to them. I still have enough left to do another engine or two - it didn't take much to do all 8 cylinders.

When would you use this to seat them? Is it only on certain applications or would any motor benefit from it?

Yes any motor will benefit from this, it helps show you how to clean the bores properly which is one of the keys. It does work really well to make sure your rings break in, nothing like doing a tear down because you don't beat on it enough to break in the rings.

I've used it on my last two LT1 builds. No complaints from me. And one of those little containers did both motors, and I bet I have enough left for another one too.

If you clean the bores good enough, that stuff will give the bores a greenish tint. It's kinda weird looking, but at least you'll know that you applied it properly

How much and where can you get this? Don't mean to hijack the thread, but it seems your question was answered.

I know your supposed to install the pistons with the rings dry, but do you put any oil on the piston skirts when you install it or does the quickseat serve as a lubricant for the skirts as well? I figured if I oiled the skirts it would interfere with the quickseat as I was turning the motor over during assembly, but I wasn't sure.

Thanks for the informative replies I actually did do a search on the subject, but all I found was a few threads where quickseat was meantioned. I couldn't find where it had been discussed before.

Yes the Quickseat is the lube, don't put any oil on the skirts. Install them dry.
