Question Use dino oil after cam install then back to synthetic?

I was reading through Alex's heads/cam install guide and he says to use regular dino for intial startup then change that oil after and hour or so and switch back to synthetic? I have been using Mobil 1 in my car forever and I thought once you switched to synthetic you can't go back to dino oil or you will mess up your seals? Should I just fork out the $ and use Mobil 1 for intial startup and change after 1 hour with more Mobil 1? What have you guys done?

Dyno oil is usually recommended for break-in. It won't hurt anything and will save you some money to boot.

I agree it would be cheaper.Swichting back and forth between stadard motor oil and synthetic oil will not hurt anything,i do it all the time and have never had a problem.

It doesn't matter either way. I prefer synthetics from day one. And Corvette team does too. LT1's included, if I rememebr correctly. Synthetics have no natural faults that dino oil does, and will never be filtered out due to the process of refining crude oil. Either way, though, proper break in etiquette is a MUST. Do not run at a constant speed, and do not romp on it for ~500 miles, then chage the oil immediatly(gets rid of those pesky metal shavings).

Has owned 4 F-bods, has always used Mobil One, 10-W30 in summer, 5W-30 in Winter, and never had a single engine consume more than 1/4 quart every 2500 miles. Not even a 98 LS1...

Most people use dino oil for breakin, since it's cheaper than synthetic and it's only going to be in the engine for a couple hundred miles. Why spend $$ on oil that's only staying in the motor for a short period of time.

True, and I would do the same thing. i just like to dispell the myth that Synthetics are not good for break in. Synthetics are in every way superior to dino oils. No imperfections.
