Urgent: Need Ideas

I have a 96 LT1, car has been running perfect. Went to start it today and wouldnt start up. Just cranked over and over, oil pressure rose up and when I stopped cranking the motor shook violently. I popped the hood and notice smoke comming out of the intake, so I took the filter off and more smoke came out, smelled strongly of gasoline. Stpped after about a minute. Anyone have any ideas? Dont know why it wouldnt start. I figure the smoke came from burning up the starter. Ideas please.

My car has done this before. I dont think tis nothing to worry about as it doent affect performanc eof the car when it does start up. i belive its a sign that your opti is going out. Basically its not enough spark to light off the fuel being injected into the cylinders.

I have new plugs and wires, so I Figure the only problems could be w/ the opti or coil. Anybody else have ideas??

Other possibility is the ignition control module.

Hold the gas peddle to the floor when cranking and see if it fires up.
