Upgrade Starter Motor

Looks like I'll be replacing the starter motor in my 97 LT1 Z28. I'd like to upgrade to better unit. I see posts on Powermax, items from Summit. What's the best starter to go with, that's a straight bolt in replacement? I've never done this, so any help with part numbers and such would be very helpful.

Thanks,

I have an LT4 starter in mine that you can get from Jason Cromer (you'll have to search his name, sorry no contact info handy). My single cat style SLP headers came into contact with that particular starter, but I was swapping for Hooker long tubes anyway, and the starter cleared those headers just fine.

Waht's wrong with the stocker unit? Sounds like a pointless "upgrade" to me. One of the very few things on my car that IS stock is the starter.

Re: Upgrade Starter Motor

Well, I don't mean I'm upgrading it for the sake of upgrading it, mine won't start my car. So I'm going to replace it. Seems a lot of people on the list go what they consider a 'better' starter, the LT4, Powermax are a couple I've heard of. Anytime I replace something on this car (that I'll pretty much keep forever), I try to use the best parts I can. If stock is it, that's fine, but if something else is better, I'll do that.

Suggestions?

LT4 starter. Works perfectly and better with headers than the LT1 model.
