Exclamation Unplugging Air Pump on 95' Z

Hello all, I recently had some trouble with the air pump blowing fuses and triggering the SES light on as well as the engine fans coming on at the same time. I took the advice of past post's on here and unplugged the pump. This cured the problem of the light coming on but I am wondering what kind of effects this will have to my motor. Is this going to effect my fuel mileage at all? Thanks in advance!

Fuel milage want be effected.....your engine will be fine. Your emissions will be higher at startup/cold .....thats the only negative.

There was a recall on the air pumps on 95z. You may want to call your local dealer. I don't know much about what the problem was but the dealer told me they replace it under the recall.

All true. The pump only runs at startup when the engine is cool and only runs for a max of 3 minutes or so.

I've heard that if you still have cats, not using the AIR could cause them to clog up. Don't know for certain, though.

the one and only reason that the air pump is there is to lean out the emissions while the car is warming up. So you are good, you could rip it off the engine and turn it into b0ng or some thing creative like that.

Think about this: The Caprice/Impala had AIR pump problems, too. The GM fix for them was to remove the AIR pump completely (as in "no more AIR pump"). I don't think it would be a problem, knowing that emissions items are warranted for 8 years and the dealer would have to replace parts for free if they failed.

Thats true....a few changes were made to the bin file in the pcm to keep emissions down when cold as well.
