installing crankshaft hub

what tool do i use to push this back on, i heard about getting a longer bolt from teh hard ware store with the same thread type, but im just too worried about doing that, every time i called an auto place near me to rent a tool , they direct me to the harmonic balancer remover, is this what i use? I dont see how it will put it back on..

thanks.

Make a tool like this...

If the link doesn't work then look in my sig for the link to my pics. I have a pic of a tool I made using 7/16 - 20 hardend threaded rod and a matching nut with a plate drilled to accept the threaded rod and ran it home with an impact gun.. Took all of 5 seconds...

I usually put a little oil on the hub and the sealing surface, crank too. Use the stock bolt without the stock washer and a VERY thin washer, lube threads and head, crank it down a few turns till the stock thick washer will go on the hit it with an impact and after it bottoms torque to spec. I have also done it without thin washer but be careful not to crank too much. DO NOT BEAT ON IT WITH A HAMMER

Talking

You should be ok just dont wail on it with a hammer, next thing you do is miss and say WTF that hole doing in my timing cover? Maybe use wood to get it started then use a bolt or installer to finish it. I have seen many hubs and balancers jacked like 17 switches with a hammer. Uncle 944 says: Be Safe, Not Sorry. Cause JB weld can only fix so much!

You can install it as a set if you have it from your old motor. Either way is fine if you do a bolt or installer DO NOT and did i say DO NOT beat on the outer ring of the balancer. Just tap the hub and balancer on enough to get the bolt started. Then wrench it on. I usually use a 1/2 in impact gun set to about 1/2 pressure.

well, i guess its too late for that, i banged it in enough to go in a bit, and then i figured it was probably bad so i stopped, and the bolt STILL doesnt reach the crank.. wtf

You got a key in your crank? If so make sure it is lined up right. In the late LT1's no key. So pretty easy. If you have a key make sure it is seated equal. Like i said a litte oil does wonders for it going on.
