That's what I did. I used a ton on the front and back of the block, where there is no gasket. Then I spread a thin layer around the cylinder head side of the ports and put the gasket down. Then I spread a thin layer on the intake manifold side of the ports and set the manifold down. Then I used blue thread locker on the bolts, torqued them down to spec in 4 increments, using the pattern outlined in my manual. No leaks here, it worked great.

There is no reason to and would probably do more harm then good, you just want to put a nice thick bead around the back side and front side between the intake and block where there is no gasket. Extend this bead maybe about 1/2in. up onto the gasket at each end. Bolt down the intake with the proper pattern and tq. and your good to go. You may however want to let the car sit for up to 24hrs. so the RTV has a chance to set up and dry.

I don't see any harm in putting a thin film of RTV on the gasket around the intake ports. I just installed mine dry, though. You should use thread sealant on the intake bolts, as some of them pass into the valve cover area of the head and are exposed to oil.

Dont go crazy with rtv,You really only need it where the base of the intake meets the block on this type of install.I have taken apart to many engines that other people built where the rtv had squeezed from the intake port and broken free over time, this cycles through the engine cloging lifters and blocking oil flow to criticle parts of the engine. As long as you have a flat clean surface and a new gasket it will seal fine no need to gunk it up.
