Ugh, slow track times, timeslip inside, help PLZ!!

I was excited about trying my car out on a 1/4 mile track with some sticky tires, and some good mods. I was hoping for 12s, but I didn't come anywhere close. Here's my mod list-

1995 Z/28, auto w/3.23 gears. K&N intake, descreened MAF, 1LE intake elbow, TB airfoil, Meziere water pump, SLP 1 3/4" headers, Off road Y-pipe, Flowmaster force II catback, 2200 stall converter, 1LE aluminum driveshaft, !AIR, !EGR, and some 255/50/16 BF goodrich drag radials.

Here's my best slip of the day

Temp. 74*
Rel humidity 100
Barometer 30.53

60'- 2.034
330- 5.693
1/8- 8.707
MPH- 82.27
1000- 11.329
1/4- 13.543
MPH- 103.69

This is just poor!!! After this run it got hotter throughout the day, and I pulled some nice 13.7x and 13.8 times

The car feels like it falls on it's face after first gear. I thought that maybe I was getting false knock, and was losing some power. I'm just sick of this. I put headers on, and off road pipe, and gained .15 in the eighth. Now I add a stall and drag radials and run mid 13s in the 1/4.

The thing that pisses me off the most, is this LS1 trans am that I ran. He was on drag radials as well, and the only mod he had was a lid. After I got out on him at the start, he reeled me in! He should not be able to do that with my mods.

Argh, someone tell me what's wrong with my piece of ****.

ummmm.... you could have probably ran lower 13's with your mod list so the times aren't THAT bad IMO.... keep track conditions and such in mind also those could be respectable times. We aren't playing with LS1's here

a 2200 stall isn't really all that agressive either and those are shorty headers huh? ... great list of mods so far though you'll get there dont worry

hehe, the plugs and wires are fairly new. The cam will go in when I get my heads done, sometime this summer.

I know the stall isn't that aggressive, I don't really want it to be. I can brake torque it up to 2200 without breaking traction. As far as the headers go, IMO SLP mid lengths for the single cat cars are almost as good as long tubes, plus I have an off road pipe.

I have the heads and cam planned for the summer, but I don't want to throw more parts on the car if I can't get my current setup running right.

Your times are right on par w/ what your car should run in 100% rel. humidity.. Get a good clear dry air day and you'll be in or ver close to the 12's.. get that 60ft down to a 1.9 that day and you would have been 13.30's or so.. Humidity is a huge power robber especially being that high..

Considering the weather I think those times are quite good myself. Throw in a cam and you'll see low 13s possilby 12s. Ported heads and deep into the 12s. Best of luck and keep modding

I guess I'm just upset with the times because I went in to this wanting to run low 13s, but I told myself that I'd be overjoyed to get high 12s or a 13.0. Plus the LS1 thing just makes me so mad. I feel like with my mods I should beat him.

Is there anything to check to see if I'm losing some power somewhere? As far as timing goes, or anything??

Maybe my times are right on like you guys say. It just sucks to shoot for some times and not make it.

Well, here's a video of my second best time of the day. It was my first run actually.

Considering the 100% humidity, your times really don't look bad. I mean you're trapping nearly 104 MPH which is average for an auto with your mods, you just need a lower 60'.

That's why you should be like me and always shoot for 14.0's after your new mods... that way the only time you'll be let down is if **** breaks

EvilBox, I know what you mean about the 60' times. There were guys there on ET streets running 2.0s as well.

Euclid, I will shoot for 14.0s from now on

Anyone think that I would benefit from 3.73 gears?? That's about as low as I'd like to go.

if it were a manual i'd say 4.10 but being an auto i wouldn't go lower then a 3.73 either. i always liked drivetrain mods because its like free HP (as in you didn't spend any $$ on the ENGINE )

you must also remember that the LT1's are rated 275-285 at the FLY while LS1's are under-rated at 305+ at the wheels.

Take that into consideration and you've got quite a power difference between the two unfortunately for us LT1 guys.

On a brighter note, us pre-97's still have strong, fairly quick engines that look and sound great which assist in me having a date on the weekends

Don't let one day at the track discourage you... there is a lot of hope for us out there and it feels that much better when we run deep into the 12's

I say those are damn good times. For you those arent Longtubes which "might" would net your another 1mph or so. For two you have an A4 in which a 104mph trap is damn respectable for an a4 tranny car. I say good times. Go out when its colder and the conditions are better. And if you wanna cheat a little toss some icebags on your intake before your first run.

Btw. If you can get your 60's down to under 2.0 i think you would be real close tot he 12's you want. I think its like everyone .1 off your 60ft is like .2 off your 1/4 mile.

Thanks guys. This was the first semi hot day of the year, and my times really dropped off as it got hotter. My best trap was a 103.69, but as the day went on I only could manage a 100.0

Maybe I'll try some 3.73s if I find them cheap. With taller tires I really need them anyway.

I guess this outting just makes me want to get my heads finished up that I'm working on, get the cam in and get ready to rock. That should be fun. Hopefully that won't disapoint. I think when I get that done I'm just gonna shoot for a 13.0 and see what happens.
