Turn-over problem

I have this problem turning my 94 LT1 over. It turns over but it takes about a good 3 seconds of holding the key down and it chugging. Once it turns over ,about a second after, the rpms drop real quick but regain normal level just as quick as it dropped. After that it seems that the car runs fine. Im not sure if its my starter or if its my timing. Any help would be appreciated.

That's defintely a problem, I don't know about everyone else but I just have to give the key a slight flight towards start and the beast fires up. I'd say it would be a split second.
Sounds like your starter is doing it's job - it's trying to start the car.
Could be the timing.
Could be a clogged fuel filter.

Lets have some help here everyone - what other things could cause this symptom?

If I remember correctly, its in the PCM...you have to have a tuning device for that.

I have a similar problem on my car but I don't think it's the fuel pump that's dying. If the fuel pump was going bad, wouldn't the car have trouble after start-up as well? Just my thoughts, I'm far from a mechanical whiz.

Not neccesarily... Do you hear it priming when you turn the key. Thats one sign... Best way is to pull out the old fuel pressure gauge and check to see if you have a leaking check valve up by the injectors.
