To get you started, you can take a look at Tunercat here.

I hardly ever here of people frying their PCM with Lt1edit. I can't say the same of Tunercat though. Take whatever meaning you want from that. All I know is I've reflashed my PCM more times than I can remember with edit and I've never had a problem.

TunerCat can program everything that LT1 Edit can, so it is "as good" in that respect.

The software is $90 or so I think, including the LT1 file you will need with it (TunerCat is $70, and they offer definition files for $20 each which can program different GM vehicles). The software was cheaper than the cable, which cost me $95.

Your car is a 1995, so you have an OBD-I computer with an OBD-II port. Sort of complicated, but 1993-94 F-bodies have all OBD-I, while 1996-97 have all OBD-II. The 1995 cars are mixed up for some odd transition reason. So even though you have OBD-I, you would need an OBD-II cable. Check out this site for cable info.

I've flashed my PCM many times with TunerCat, and other cars, and never fried anything. There was a beta version of TunerCat for Windows that might have caused some problems, not sure... I've been fine.

I do think LT1 Edit is easier for the beginner, more user friendly. But once you know what to edit (and that is important) then it doesn't matter what program you use, you just go to the proper table and punch in numbers.

In anycase, I see no advantage to the overpriced and VIN locked LT1 Edit, take whatever meaning you want from that.

TunerCat needs to help out the LS1 guys, they're getting raped on LS1 Edit ($550 I think).

Also keep in mind that there are many tutorials and a real good mailing list that you can get for support if you are running LT1edit.

You can learn programming tips from the mailing list, then use Tunercat to save some money.

Agreed on that point. But it's not enough of a difference in price to justify not getting the program that has a better reputation in my mind. I used to hang out some and read the computer diagnostics/ programming forum here. A common topic was people frying their PCM's using Tunercat. About the only times you'd see that with Edit was when someone was doing something obviously wrong. There was even a thread of people comparing how many times they had fried their PCM with Tunercat. Now maybe that was because of a few bad revisions. How often has Edit come out like that though? Same thing with the Lt1edit mailing list for a long time. Unless you keep spare PCM's laying around then you are down when that happens. So I figure why not use the better (as far as stability) program?

.
Version 1.97 had a bad problem with EE files so be sure you have the latest software.
Funny I don't remember people having those kinds of problems with Edit.

What did he do? Does TC verify the checksum before you program? You should do that on your own anyway but Edit rechecks it for you before it'll let you screw up something.

I got a little off tangent there. My specific point is that the list is geared for people running Edit. I've been off the list awhile (decided to take a break since there wasn't alot of new info coming from it at the time) but I did get tired of people asking how to do something in TC. The terminology has enough differences between the two that people were having to pull teeth to get their TC questions answered.
