tune question
tune question
How much hp and torque would i get out of a tune from pcmforless with the little bit of upgrades i have now. And how do you do this. This might sound like a stupid question but you will never learn if you dont ask. And how much hp and torque do you think I have now. Would a tune be worth the money now or just wait till I do more upgrades.
Re: tune question
Shaun, no one can really answer that question with any accuracy for obvious reasons, but I will guess at maybe 10-20 hp or so, but it depends on a lot of things like how well your car is running and what kind of shape it is in after 17 years. There are a lot of guys here that have done mail order tunes at one time or another, so maybe they will give their results. The tuner will sometimes ask you to log a few runs on your car and send it to them to look at.
The very best way for you to go about it is to go to a good dyno tuner who can do an LT1 and do a before and after run and have him tune the car, then you'll get better results, and you will know what the tune did for you. The whole mail order thing is OK if you are on a tight budget, but it won't be as good as getting it done right and you won't know what the results are, and if you have any problems with your car, you might not find them. I'd say if you haven't done this recently, do a good hardware tune up first, then get it tuned to save you the aggravation of finding out that half your ignition and fuel components are broke down or worn out. And don't use some cheap plug wires, those can cause more harm than good. Good luck with it.
The last thing is that your car is mostly stock, so only you can decide of it is worth the cost or not. The gains won't be huge for intake and exhaust mods, but they do help, and the tune will also help a little. The tune will mostly be to adjust the fueling in wide open throttle where it is a little rich from the factory to better protect the engine when you beat on it.

Re: tune question
Yeah i guess your right. The car runs good now so I dont plan on doing anymore engine work to it. But eventually I want to put le heads and a cc503 cam, stall conv. rockers, springs and a set of rear gears. So I guess when I do all that I will worry about the tune. Thanks for your input.
