Trying to load PCMfor less;cable error ect. need help

Well I got through the other problem with the boot disk but ran into another. Once I got the program opened, and the cable plugged in, the message opened that said :
"attempting to communicate" and then said "cable error" I am trying to use two cables. When I got the 15"ft cable it turned out to be too small so I bought one at ComUSA (local pc store) and the connections and everything hooked up and everything sound. What could be the problem? Obviously the cable but how? I bought the cable through AEKM I think it was, the company that most of you guys buy yours from. Anyone shed some light on this? Thanks in advance.

I'm sure Andrew's cable is fine. It's probably something else.
Did the cable EVER work for you? You might be using the wrong COM port.... Try a different one. Click on settings menu and if it says com port 1 now, switch it to 2. If it's 2, switch it to 1. Try them all and see if that works.

nothing else can be running on that com port. if you have anything like a palm pilot or any other type of device you will get an error. i would turn off every program that is running on the computer except what you need. are you working from the puter inside the house? what os are you running on the computer? i got cable error but nothing was wrong with the cable. it was the com port.

Thanks fellas for the help. I am using my pc in my house because my laptop doesn't have the right connection for my cable. The pc is next to the the window but just out of reach to use just the 1 cable I got to install it. By "com port" do you mean where I plug the cable into the back of my tower? I closed out all of the programs except for what I was using. When it asked me which port to use 1-4, I tried 1 and 2,3,4 said invalid.

Thumbs up

Well I finally got the program loading and all is well. I unplugged my printer and used that port. The extra cable worked fine. Thanks to all.
