True Duals with MAC headers?

Anybody done this and had it exit out the back? How much, if any ground clearance was lost? I would LOVE to have a true dual car, but hate losing ground clearance, thats why im going with MAC headers, also cuz I would rather have a lil more power down low than a lil more up high. If I did do true duals, I would probably use 2 long chambered mufflers at some point, to quiet it down a lil bit, and would also use an X-pipe. Thanks!!

Re: True Duals with MAC headers?

Well, seein how this doesnt seem to be a hot topic, ill add a little more info on what im looking to possibly do and see if anyone has done.

I want to use the MAC headers for two main reasons. 1 being the fact that my car is not a drag car, therfore, I dont need maximum power up top, I would rather have more power down low, where its used more, then a little more up top. Secondly, plug access is supposed to be very good on these, however, almost anything should be better than stock manifolds!

On to the true duals. Right now my car has a Borla on it, and while I love the way the car sounds, I KNOW it would sound way better with true duals. I hate Mustangs, but I LOVE the way they sound. However, I do realize the big downside of true duals is lose of ground clearance, which to me is a semi big thing. My car isnt lowered, but I take my car everywhere and dont want to be scraping on anything. Im almost positive that ive seen a true dual system on someones car, that exited out the back, that looked like it came stock and there was hardly any loss of ground clearance, I just cant seem to find it when I seach. ANY HELP?????

Re: True Duals with MAC headers?

I have MAC shorties that run into true duels. Ground clearance is not a problem at all, never scrap on anthing. I have relatively small flowmaster mufflers on each pipe, however no X or H pipe. Anyways, the sound is pretty cool i guess, but im waiting to see how much better it will sound when i get around to getting an H pipe put in. Anyways no loss of clearance in my opinion if it is done right.

You got any pics of the underside and from the side? And yeah, ive seen some good true dual setups that have no loss of ground clearance, but none of them have X or H pipes, and having one of those really makes it sound mean, so im trying to figure out a way to incorporate that into my proposed system

You could do the exact system I have except with the mid-length
headers instead of manifolds. Cost with cats = $1,200, w/o the cats,
with a cheaper muffler, and cheaper tips you would be in the $700
to $800 range.

Actually truedualws6, your system was the one that I remember seeing, and to me it looks like you have lost almost no ground clearance and it is a VERY clean setup. However, the only thing in your setup that I dont like, is that you dont have an X-pipe. Thats something that ive been trying to figure out how to squeeze it in under there without it takin up too much space. Also, what diameter is you system?

Re: True Duals with MAC headers?

I'm not sure about the 96-97 MAC's, but on my 94, I think I remember the collector on the driver's side being angled a little strangely to mate up with the y-pipe, but I could be imagining that. That might cause complications in a true dual set up, but if your exhaust guy knows his stuff, you could probably work around it.

If you look closely at the photos, I do have a crossover. It's not an "x" or a
"y", it's a window 1.25" high by 11" long where the two parallel pipes are
siamesed together. Other than dynoing 12 rwhp more than a 3" catback system
I can't say exactly what the crossover does. It has to be better than none
at all. My system is 2.5" mandrel bent throughout.

You got any pics of how that H-pipe tucks up in there?
