Trouble getting crank hub off

In the middle of a cam swap right now and everythings off except for the timing cover and crank hub. I have a puller for it, the one that threads into the three holes on the hub. The biggest bolts that came with the puller were just a little small so i threaded them through and put nuts on the ends of them. I also put a socket on the actual crank and put the needle tip thing of the puller in the socket hole to keep it from moving around. I started tightening big center bolt on the puller which in effect pulls on the hub and it progressively got harder until one of the bolts the threads into the hub broke. Can anybody tell me if there is a easier way to get it off? btw, i didn't mention it but i also took the center bolt out of the crank.

Some people take a 1/4" extension and put it in there to push against. It needs to be about 4" long so that it will bottom out on the crank and not get pressed into the hub. Make sure its centered so you don't mess up the crank threads.

What you were basically doing is pressing the hub center while pulling on the outside.

The hub looks like this, so if you have your socket sitting there, it is on the hub and not the crank. You have to put something in the crank bolt hole like GetaZforgetGT suggested to push against.
