Unhappy Tried to install headers today and it couldnt have went worse!!!!

Well in the start everythign went alright got both manifolds off. then i started on puttin the header in on the drivers side took steering knuckle off took valve cover off even took the dust pan off and oil filter off on the tranny. No luck well then my buddy who is a pretty good mechanic ended up pulling off the plug above the oil filter and he had to leave b/c he's shipping out to go down to N.C to the army adn it looked like that plug broke anybody know what that is?? Well now my car is up on a lift everything out of it no plugs no nothing. Now im just goin to take it to push it to my local exhaust shop tomorrow and let them deal with it. Also what do i need to plug back in just to roll my windows up and lock my doors?? I'm so depressed right now im bout ready to just cry. Man its been a long day

Plug??? do you mean a little blue and white sensor that plugs into the block??? I belive that is a coolant sensor of some kind. I know that should have been unpluged to begin with and you should be careful with it??? get a new one at the gm parts dealer near ya.
Dont get discoraged!!! dont take it to the muffler shop you can do the install and save some money. I could not have done mine if it wasn't for about three cartons of marlbro red's seriously!!!

Well, having done headers once (Grotyohann Long Tubes), I still would give myself a good three days minimum just to be on the save side.

What kind of headers are you trying to install, it sounds like you have everything off that you need to, actualy more, I never removed the valve covers. Are you trying to put them in from the top or bottom? I went from the bottom, I think the only way with long tubes. Maybe you need to get the car up higher to get a better angle to slip them up and in.

No im not talking about the coolant sensor i took that off. I'm talking about the big black thing right above the oil filter i'd say about 3inches or so. And i'm on a lift so no issues on getting it high enough and im going in from the top on the drivers side and the bottom on the passenger already got that side in it was really easy. I just need to know what broke just start throwing out ideas...

I think it might be the oil pressure sensor.

I agree it can be that, or maybe your connection to the 02 sensor thats is also by the oil filter. Just take your time it took me a full weekend to install my JBAs by myself. Dont get discourge and save your cash for other items that you fine or break down the road on the header install.

its not the 02 sensor and i thought that the oil sensor was connected to the oil pan? so the oil sensor is right above the oil filter? how much does it cost for a new one and how hard is it to replace?

If this is on your '94, there shouldn't be any sensor in the hole above the oil filter. That was used on '93s for the oil psi sender. On '94+ the sender is on the back of the block near the EGR valve. Look back there and see if you see a black module with an electrical plug attached.

If so, and you also have one near the oil filter, you can remove that one by the filter. It shouldn't be necessary.

Of course, you could be referring to something else... not the low oil sensor in the pan?

are you talking about an oil cooler?? if the oil filter doesnt attach directly to the block then it would be attached to an oil cooler. if you arent sure.. it has 2 lines running from it that should connect to the radiator. if you busted the oil cooler then you can take it off.. most ppl have to anyway with LTs b/c the collectors run directly into it but youre not that far yet in the install

Headers are fun.

Seriously though, just jack the engine to get the headers in. Put a block of wood under the oil pan, and a floor jack under that. Take out the driver's side motor mount nut, then jack it up slightly so you can remove the bolt. Take the engine up high enough so you can slide the header in, bolt the header up loosely and lower it back into the mount. It is no where near as hard as it sounds, takes like 5 minutes the first time. Getting the stock stuff off is the hard part. Don't waste money by letting an exhaust shop do the rest. You're almost there, just jack up the engine a few inches and it will slide right in.

I can't tell what you're talking about by the plug above the oil filter. I never messed with anything like that doing headers. Are you talking about the sensor that screws into the side of the oil pan right beside the oil filter? Pics would help.

Well i guess i am talking about the oil cooler b/c there are two lines that come out of it and this sensor is connected to it. It's a big black plug in type thing my friend just took it off but its not supposed to come off. So i have to take the oil cooler off now too? I dont remember reading anything about that.

What brand/style of headers are these you're attempting to install?
