How can i tell which transmission i have? and wich one is the best?

Do you have a 1st gear selection on your A4?

I have a 96 Z with an Auto. trans, and I read that if your Auto. doesn't have a 1st gear selection, then your rear end has 2.73 gears, but if it does have, they are 3.23s.
