Trans wiring help needed M6 to 4L60E

I have converted myZ from m6 to 4L60E, my car is a 94 model, trans and wiring came from a 96 or 97 Trans Am cant remember. I have a set of 94 factory service manuals. I stripped the entire harness out of the donor car all the way to the ecm, put them in the correct ecm connectors per the 94 manual, but there is one tan wire in the barrel plug harness not listed in the 94 manual, anyone have the 96/97 factory manuals that can copy all the trans wiring pages and send them to me? Or does anyone know what the extra wire is for? Anyone run into this before?

it says it is the torque converter clutch pulse width modulation solenoid. my manual only shows a tan/black wire. does it come from 6c4 on the pcm? if it does than that is what it is. i think i used this wire to run my reverse lockout when i did the m6 conv.

I will look and see and get back with you, will it hurt to run it without this wire hookedup? Or do i need an OBDII ecm?

PM this guy he knows his stuff. He helped me when I bought a rebuilt 97 tranny to put into my 95. Not many people know that the solenoids between the two years are different, but he knew exactly what he was talking about and told me what I needed to do.
Here is his Screen Name on the board.

You might also want to try this guy. Here is his Screen Name too.

Um...Hold on...Let me see if I can find my cape...LOL
Your transmission is a PWM unit, which means it has an extra solenoid in the transmission to control lock-up. Instead of the lock-up coming in all at once like earlier 700/4L60E's, the computer now pulses the PWM solenoid to let the lock-up come in gradually.
You might want to make sure your harness will even plug into the transmission. If you have a '97 computer, you'll need to hook the wire up. If you had an earlier computer (non PWM) you might be able to get away without it hooked up because the computer wouldn't recognise it needs it.

The car and computer are an OBD1 94, trans and harness are 97 Trans Am. I stripped the entire harness from the swap car all the way back to the ecm, installed the harness per the 94 factory service manual, car was a six speed and will be reflashed for the auto. I hooked all the wiring to the brake pedal shifter etc for the lockup to work correctly. Do I need a 97 PCM?

When I did the swap I wasn't going from M6 to A4 but since the solenoids were different, I still needed to do some swaping. I was reading on the internet that the late 95's were the first year that they put the PWM solenoids into the 4L60E. But sometime they changed them in 96 and if I'm not mistaken again in the 97's. So since your car is a 94 maybe your PCM isn't even programmed to operate the PWM solenoid. Like I said GM didn't start using the PWM until 95.

When I did my swap I had to swap the PWM solenoid from my junk 95 to the 97. Then I seen that GM had changed the wireharness just for that sloenoid. So I had to swap the entire wireharnesses also, barrel plug and all. Sounds to me like you're going to need a PCM from a 97 to operate the tranny.

Here are a few pics of the 97 trans. I was using with the pan off. If you don't have your trans. in the car yet you might want to pull the pan off and take a look. Hopefully they'll help.

The first 3 are unedited.

Well the PCM will be reflashed to run the auto tranny. But will it even be capable of the task? Being a 94 PCM and a 97 tranny. DO I need to wire the ecm like the 97 wiring harness like it was in the 97 car? It is currently wired per 94 service manual. Is this solenoid even needed? I will have a lockup converter.
Thanks for the pics.

I'm not sure if wiring it up according to the 97 manual would help since the 94 PCM probably isn't programmed for the solenoid. You're best bet would be to PM MADWOLF, he is a member and Supporting Advertiser for reprogramming PCM's here on the board. I've heard good things about him. Good luck. Sorry I can't be of more help.
