Trans Gurus: Doing A 700r4 Conversion Please Help!!!

I've done a lot of research on swapping from a 4L60E to a 700R4. I need to be absolutely sure about this cause I don't want to mess anything up. Heres what I've come up with. I need a torque converter lock up, and a detent cable. I see TPI has a nice kit that allows the converter to lock up without a computer and it comes with a detent cable. There's a link at the bottom. Now all I need is a Throttle body from a 93 Z28/TA right? Are there any complications when gettting this to work correctly? Anything else you guys can think of that I need to get to have this work right, any advice you can give?http://www.tpiperformance.com/700r4.html

Does not matter what year throttle body you have. There is an extra place on TB for detent cable. You can also hook up a switch for manual lockup.

Do you want your speedo to work ??? If so your gonna need to swap out the VSS from the E tranny into the 700r4 . I have a 95 VSS in my 90 model 700r4 , it swaps right over . Also if you have LT1-edit , to avoid any codes you can use a file with the trans functions deleted .

This place makes a nice converter lock-up kit and they don't rape you for it ....like a few I can think of .

All you need bracket and cable wise , is a 93 F-body cable bracket and TV cable . 93's did not use E-transmissions .

The TPI kit comes with a Detent cable. Should I use this one or do I need the 93 one or will both work?

So I didn't need the whole throttle body, just the bracket? I thought I needed the throttle body because of the hook up. Is the bracket a separate piece or does it come on the throttle body?

The kit also comes with the non-computerized torque converter lock up.

You just need the 93 bracket, and the detent cable. The bracket bolts on to your throttle body.

The bracket bolts to the Intake just behind the throttle body

You could use either or on the detent cable. I just figured you could pick up the 93 cable and bracket cheaper , plus it would may be a lil easier on the install since the stuff was already engineered to go there ....maybe not , I mean it is just a cable eh . You wont need the throttle body from a 93 , there are already provisions to mount the detent cable in yours . If you have the chance look at a 93 or a third gen TPI F-body to see how it mounts .

The 700 has no nuts. Mine was rebuilt twice and then exploded in Norwalk last October. Plan on a shield or a blanket, SFI flywheel, and you better have it really built. They will not take a lot of strip abuse.

A typical 700 lock up ststem only need a constant hot, and a ground to make it operate. Wiring it through a switch is not the best way to go about it. You'll need constant hot on the "A" terminal at the case connector. You'll need a ground at the "D" terminal. Your ground should be interupted through your brake light switch. This breaks the circuit when you step on the brake, so the converter will unlock. You may also consider installing a low vacuum switch in the ground circuit. A low vacuum switch breaks the circuit when you stomp on the gas, so the converter unlocks. Inside the trans, you'll need to interupt either the hot, or ground with a 4-3 pulse switch, and either a 3rd or 4th switch (depending on when you want lockup to come in). Unfortunately, late 700 valvebodies don't have a 4-3 pulse tap, though. The 4-3 pulse switch disengages the converter when a forced 4-3 downshift is made. Earlier 700 valvebodies also had a lockup control valve. This valve controlled the lockup timing. Later 700 had computer controlled lockup.
This is just a referance. I set all my non- factory equipped 700's up this way.

Wow you seem very knowledgable Frank. Thanks for the info. I'm not much for electronics though. Do you think I'll be ok with the one that comes with the kit? Heres the link

Will a detent bracket made for a 92-93 LT1 work on my 95 intake. I'm sure it hooks up just like the one I have now but I've never seen one before. I just like to double check cuz I've been given bad info in the past. Anybody know where I can get a cheap one?

Any perticular reason I should get the VETTE detent?
