Tranny said "BOOOOM!" WTF!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday when I floored it, my tranny blew up at 5000 RPM's. I have 65000 miles on my '95 Z. This shouldnt have happened. Please help me determine what went wrong cause it was prolly my fault. I have:

1. Tranny Cooler ( I could have done something wrong that caused it to F#&% up)

2. ES Tranny Mount

3. I just did a pan drop and replaced filter, gasket, and fluid

4. Also, I bought my car a year ago from a 75 year old couple a year ago and I havent driven the car that hard. (keep in mind 65000 miles on it)

I've done all of these mods in the last month then yesterday "BOOOOOOOM!!!! at 5000 rpms.

I figure it wasnt my mods that screwed it up becasue it never slipped. It just went BOOOOOM one day. So I dont want to screw up a new tranny if something is wrong with my cooler, or tranny mount.

Please give me your $.02. Thanks!!!!

What do you mean by "BOOM"??

Can you still drive it?

Does it shift into all gears?

Do you hear a bang when you accelerate hard?

Could possibly be the torque arm. That attaches to the tailshaft...

My tranny went "BOOM" last fall literally. Right through the floorboard and stuck a piece of case in my leg...

Does anyone have any comments about my problem??? I'm out of commision and I'm pulling my tranny in two days. Ireally need some insight on anything that could have happened or anything that is related to dropping a tranny or anything about rebuilds. Ive done searchs for hours.

Well if you have tranny fluid spilling everywhere it is likely that you could have popped a line off depending on how you ran your tranny cooler.

Did you bother to look under the car yet and see where the fluid is coming from. It could have came out the overfill tube up top as well.

You could have broken a hard part that might have taken out a piece of the case.

Also if you lost fluid of course it is going to slip since it needs fluid to work.

Do not drive the car till you figure out what is wrong you could possibly still save the trans, but it is not likely.

One other thing if you change trans fluid on a vehicle that has never had a fluid change it is more often than not a bad thing. It is fine to just change the filter but putting in new fluid can sometimes wash away what material is left on the soft parts in the trans. Trans fluid is a detergent which works differently than most other lubricants in cars.

As for getting a rebuild most guys at trans shops think they are kings of rebuilding them. Just ask for a stock rebuild if you have a stock or close to stock car. Once these trans techs start drilling and changing major items in the valve bodies they just like to keep breaking more often than working.

If you really need a special build there are kits that you can look into getting. Art Carr is a very good company, level ten trans is good, if you want to see what parts are available you can look up raptor transmission and see the large aftermarket since the (700r4) 4L60 or 4L60E has come out.

Hope that helps.

If you need more info on dropping it or rebuilding it email me.

My dipstick cap had poped off I know that much. Also, fluid was dripping all over the exhaust and esp. on the cat. So what does that mean and why did fluid come out if an internal piece broke?

I need to add a question to my previous reply... can I change my rear main seal in my motor while the tranny is out?
