Tow Dolly
Tow Dolly
So I've moved about 280 miles from where I used to be, and my TA is not
quite ready to roll. Anyone ever moved a 4th gen this distance with a tow
dolly, something like uhaul offers? Advice? Thoughts? Concerns?
Would '01 S10 (180hp) even have a prayer of pulling something like this?
(With a few hundred lbs for misc tools/jacks/etc...). I have a '95 CK 1500 at
my disposal which should do the job but its more of a PITA to make available.

I hauled my TA from Kansas City to Orlando, FL on a full-vehicle trailer from U-Haul. It worked great except for two things.
1) I had to put boards under the trailer ramps so that I could get my car on the trailer without dragging the body on the ramps. No biggie really. Just use a 2' 2x4 or 2x6 and position it under the ramps so that the car drives up on the boards first and then onto the ramps.
2) The hand crank tongue lift on the front of the trailer, although positioned a few inches below the front bumper cover after loading, managed to hit the bottom of the front bumper cover as the trailer hit bumps in the road. When I got to my destination, a small pit was rubbed in the bottom of the front bumper cover and the paint on the lower side of the bumper cover was spider-webbed.
Other than that, I'm glad I trailered the whole car - at least for that distance of driving.
In your case, you should be okay with a tow-dolly. Just be aware of off-camber road extrances/exits, otherwise you may drag the rear of your car (bumper cover/exhaust tips) on the ground.
Good luck!

I towed my camaro 1500 miles when I moved a few months ago. I recommend making sure nothing is in the car at all. Mine was pretty much loaded because we were moving a lot of stuff, and ran out of room in our Tahoe. My tailpipes got flattened on the bottom. But I also had a hitch on it, and that hit before most anything else, so it protected my car. Id say go for it. Just be carefull on sharp turns and any bumps. Good luck.
