Total rebuild......what do you guys think?
Total rebuild......what do you guys think?
Well I think I threw a bearing and looks like I'm gonna have to rebuild my 97 seems so soon only got 79k on it. Anyway, I know some about cars but engine rebuilding. Wouldn't mine doing it myself. I was wondering, should I just bore out the 350 or go for it and stroke it to a 383? If I'm gonna break her down, I figure i might as well get something out of it. I wanna end up with around 375 horses. I have a hell of a lot of questions either way so shoot guys.
Thanks a bunch. S.J.S.
97Z A4, K&N Cold Air, Flowmaster Cat-Backs, airfoil, MAF, March Pulleys, Eibach Pro Kit, TB Bypass and big as hell 315's on rear.

Either way you go, your going to have to bore it. With a high mileage engine, simply rebuilding the motor with stock displacement is essentially worthless, especially if u do plan to tear apart ur engine. If your not familiar with engines as u say, i would DEFINITELY not recommend that you rebuild it yourself. At least if it is done at a shop and they do something wrong, your covered. If u make the mistake while rebuilding, ur stuck. I know a fairly decent amount about rebuilding engines, and I just finished reading a 186 page book on rebuilding an LT1, and I don't even feel confident to build it myself.
If u wanna do a cheap rebuild, u can build a 355 motor just boreing the cylinder wall .030 over. As long as u inspect and have the machine shop clean up the rods and crank and replace the pistons, u basically have a new engine.
If u want to go a little higher quality with more power (but of course more $$$$) u can build a 383 motor. Granted it will be expernsive, but u will easily reach ur HSP goal and then some.
