Re: Torquin Heads

The torque sequence is in the Chiltons. My ARP bolts said to torque aluminum heads to 60 lbs and cast iron heads to 65 lbs.

To the best of my knowledge you are supposed to "sneak" up on the torque spec so you don't stretch the bolt and also distribute the load over the gasket evenly while tightening.

Re: Torquin Heads

DO NOT torque them in one sequence at 60 ft lbs. You need to go through them a couple times. Torqueing them to much on the intitial go through can cause the gasket to not "set" correctly and can cause bolts to snap or even damage the head.
When we torqued my little brother's heads on his cammed 95 Formula, we followed the torque sequence and torqued first at 30 ftlbs, then another pass at 45 ftlbs, then again at 55 ftlbs and finally finished them up at 60 ftlbs.

And I am not sure on that final torque setting of 60 ftlbs, it could have been 65 ftlbs. I just don't have my chiltons in front of me to verify what the final torque down value is.

I did 30/45/65. Definitely dont do it all in one pass.
