Re: "Torquest" Cam

I would recomend the Comp 304. I had that in my 9C1 with a 383 and heads. That car would break'em loose at 45-50mph no problem. This motor is now in my camaro and I spin from tick over through 3rd.

Not that that is a bad cam but stock displacement means it will act differentlty.
I would only recommend that cam boosted or sprayed.

I had the cc304 in a Camaro. That cam seemed to make a ton of bottom end. When I would go to the track it would break the tires loose no matter what I did. This was with DR's , SFC's,ect.

With the 227 I dyno'd 352/356 and ran a 12.495@115.1 full weight just bogging it off the line. If I had a dyno tune and new springs+ the true duals I have now it would have gone 117-118mph easy.

Numbers in sig. Definately a good torque cam.

Re: "Torquest" Cam

Oh yeah, if you are going to swap cams for sure, and you want an off the shelf cam, the 210/224 (227) is tha way to go.

truedualws6 has a sweet setup, and the 227 is great for low end TQ with a decent bump up in HP.

Re: "Torquest" Cam

With the Crane 227, I've made 350 rwhp with ported heads stock displacement and seen 335 rwhp with stock heads. Looks like it'll make 310 - 360 rwhp depending on supporting mod's.

Frank 95Z has gone as quick as 11.3 at 116 with this cam and stock heads, NA.

His car was very light too, but you do seem to see a lot of guys with the 227 doing well in the 1/4. I agree.

Re: "Torquest" Cam

The crane 227, the GM 845 or even the Comp 304 or 501. These cams don't spin as high and make good torque and power lower down. Many of the B-body guys use these successfully. That and some gears with your 2400 stall should work nicely.

Even if that truck is a 4WD, it still shouldn't weigh that much. My 90 model 454SS when basically stock weighed in around 4600, and that's with a very heavy big block.

agreed, I have a 90 K5 Blazer that is about 5000#, but that is a solid front axle truck as well

Re: "Torquest" Cam

Check out the LPE-211 or 213 cams. Short duration cams usually have earlier torque peaks - which is what you're looking for

Re: "Torquest" Cam

I vote for the 227 also. I run stockheads and bolt ons and made 331rwhp thru a Strange 12bolt with a Vig3200 unlocked. I ran 11.40 at 116(not 11.30's) and my car weighs 3327 with me in it. I now run the same setup with a custom Joe O cam and I've run 11.27 118.90 but the 227 had a better 60ft.(low end torque) Frank95z

Just to give you and idea, I had a combo once that dyno'd 335 rwhp with a Vig3200 unlocked, then made 350 rwhp locked.
