Unhappy tore the motor down

Well after 110k miles, I decided it was time. I tore the motor out, and I found alot of funny things. First off, at 80k I put in a new cam, timing set, push rods, springs, roller rockers, and headers. I always thought that something was just not right when I would drive it, since sometimes it seemed like I had ALL kinds of power and the car would go like hell, then other times it would make all kinds of noise, but didn't really seem like it was going anywhere. Soooooo.....during tear down I noticed my timing chain a tad loose, like I could wiggle it an INCH on either side. One main bearing had a nice crack in it, all of them were VERY shiny. Four of the rod bearings had cracks running length ways in them, and pretty much all of the cam bearings had some copper showing, with the first one showing the most. Me thinks that the engine was pretty tired, and now it will get some much needed rest. I still have not decided if I am going to 383 it, or just buy a 400, destroke it, twin turbo it with a pro-fogger set up on top of that. guess I will just have to flip a coin to make up my mind!

Whatever you do, just make sure it will fit under the cowl and the hood. Messing with a SB Chevy distributor in a 4th Gen isn't fun.
