Re: top speed LT1

I hit 145 with FOUR people in the car! Pretty stupid looking back...

It should do about 15x with just me though. That was bone stock too.

Re: top speed LT1

I was well off my speedometer on my 93 Z (A4) when it was completely stock aside from a borla catback, morosa CAI, and BFG DRs. Calculating on the fbodygears page based on RPMs it was over 160 mph.

Thats pretty sweet that the ECM can read MPH up to 255 mph, now that I have a datalogging cable I will definetly hook that up next time I do a run. I'm pretty interested to what i'll hit this summer with my LE 1 heads, cam, nitrous, etc, etc. car when I get it running this summer. I'm hoping to break 180mph with the 150 shot... well thats after lowering it a couple inches and throwing on some slicks.

true story: One of dad's coworkers got stopped out west for doing around 90mph on an interstate. About 2 miles before he got stopped, a Lamborghini Diablo blows by him going probably 130-140. When the coworker asked the cop (who was in a Crown Vic) why he didn't stop the Lamborghini, the cop said he couldn't catch him.

Also, if you blow by a cop going that fast, he won't always try to come after you depending on the conditions. He may radio ahead if anything.

Unless:

1. You've done suspension work
2. You've done brake work
3. You have a nice, long, bump free and deserted stretch of road.
4. You can drive very well, especially in terms of scanning ahead, way down the road.
5. Even with all of the above handled, it's just a really bad idea.

I'm 49 years old. My first car, at 15, was a 500+ HP Shelby GT500 4 speed. I've done triple digits on crowded surface streets more times than I could possibly remember. I've done over 140 on public roads many, many times. Dropped an intake valve into a cylinder, seizing the 428CI engine, at 140 on I-10 in Houston when I was about 18. That was pretty exciting. Stuff happens you just can't plan for.

I've driven like a complete idiot in my younger years, and it's God's grace I'm still alive AND that I didn't kill somebody else in the process. I've 360'd any number of cars on dry streets while pushing the car to the edge. FWIW, I've driven Winston Cup cars at Atlanta Motor Speedway, and that's cake compared to driving your F-body 150+ on a public road.

But I would never, ever look for 190 MPH in an F-body on a public street. As whack as I've been, even I think that's crazy. At that speed, you are simply not prepared for, nor will the car allow you to do much to correct or avoid *anything* unexpected that happens. All it takes is that one little unexpected thing, and then what's left of you and the car will have them looking really hard to find all of your body parts for the funeral. Closed casket, of course.

Topping out a modded car that already had more motor than suspension when it was stock is a really bad idea. Unfortunately, some people only find that out the hard way. Don't be one of them.

P.S. In case it's not obvious, in no way am I bragging above. I drove stupid and could easily have killed innocent people in the process. I'm encouraging you younger peeps to take it to the track.
